"Last Orders on the Tube" night- May 31, 2008

Sorry about the lack of posting on here for the last month... I've been without internet for the past few weeks. I'm gonna get caught up on everything this weekend... I promise!

Most of you won't have heard this, but there is a new Mayor of London, a guy called Boris Johnson. One of the first things that he did coming into office was to cut drinking on the tube/buses/trams/trains in London from June 1, 2008.

Some people thought that it would be a good idea then to organise parties on the tube for the last night of being able to legally drink on the tube... we thought why not join in?... I've been known to enjoy a beer or 2 on the trains in my day!

Here's Kevin, Steph and Ratna posing with our first "round" of beers as we leave Greenwich:

We decided that we were going to get on the Circle Line heading in the opposite direction than everyone else... we thought that could help us to avoid most of the trouble!... Here's a picture of the Clockwise traveling Circle Line train before it got shut down:

Everyone then came to the other track, to wait for the next "anti-clockwise" train. This group had a little Wine "Tea Party" on the platform. It looks like they were having a great night!:

Tons of people were out (and drinking)...

When the train finally did come... we got onto the scariest "Lord of the Flies" train. You can't tell by this picture, but people had ripped out all of the lights... so it was dark and also very hot. The most memorable part though would have to be that people were chanting "Let's go fucking mental"... and they delivered on that promise... it was like real live Animal Kingdom on this train.

At the next stop, we decided to see if we could switch trains... and found our bongo playing friend from the train platform... this was a much better atmosphere to drink on the train to.

This guy even had a kazoo... he was doing a duet with the bongo guy!

Our train too got shut down at Kings Cross (we hadn't made it very far). The station was evacuated... and I just had to get a picture of the number of people that were about in this station... chaos!

Cause the night was still early, we found a late night bar to go to for more drinks. We chose to sit in the comfy leather sofas... which caused Kevin to start falling asleep. We got a cab home at about 3:30am.

We had a proper last session of drinking on the tube.
