London Marathon

I set the alarm to wake up early this morning to watch the London marathon go right past my flat. They started at 9:45 this morning, and the part of Greenwich that I live in was between mile 6 and 7. So, the first to come through was the wheelchairs, which I caught the end of.

From there, we cheered on Renee's friend Gen (sadly, I didn't get a picture of her running).

Here's the picture that I took of the Maasai Warriors that have left Tanzania for the first time ever to come to run in the marathon to raise £20,000 to fund the digging of a well in their area. Sadly, they were on the opposite side of the road from where we were standing, so I couldn't get a good picture. But, you can sort of see them in this picture (well, their spears anyway).

And, then came the mobs of runners around the corner. They seemed to just keep coming and coming.

I tried to get pictures that would really show just how many people we were looking at...

Hopefully one of these will give you the idea of the scope of it.

We tried to hang in there until the last person passed, but once the sun went behind the clouds we started considering going back inside, but then continued to stay and cheer people on. The final straw was when it started raining... it really was time to go then!
